Is it legal to mount a GoPro on a motorcycle helmet?

Is it legal to mount a GoPro on a motorcycle? Definitely a great question to ask but what we as riders should be asking is “WHY do I need a helmet camera in the first place?”

Some say it’s OK to mount a camera on your helmet as long as you don’t alter its original state by drilling holes into it. Always refer to your local law enforcement officials, as the law may be different across the US and the world, so the safest thing to do is check with them.

Why You Need To Record Your Rides

We wanted to make a post about this subject as it's the entire reason we started our company, Chin Mounts. You need to get a camera on your motorcycle helmet, it may be a matter of life or death or at least evidence of what happened in the event of a crash.

We all know someone who uses a dash cam on their car to protect themselves for lots of different reasons. Those same reasons apply for us motorcyclists, if not more so due to the risks involved with riding.

A helmet camera mount is a great way to capture a POV perspective of what happened leading up to any incident on a motorcycle. That's why, Chin Mounts, makes unique action camera mounts for motorcycle helmets. We not only want you to be able to capture your riding adventures but we also want you to have the evidence to support your claim in the event of an injury due to an inattentive driver.

Why Motorcycles Are More Susceptible To Injury

The fact that motorcyclists are more susceptible to injury is a fact known to all riders. We're smaller on the road and less visible to the drivers around us. The US is even more dangerous as people don’t necessarily think about motorcycles on the road. They’re not used to looking for motorcycles around their cars and it’s extremely important that you get some high quality video evidence to back up your case in the event of an unfortunate accident.

Always Find A Witness

If somebody is nearby that may have seen the accident try and get their contact information if you are not injured. However, it’s important to have video footage of the accident in case there are no witnesses nearby. We always ride with gear on, gloves, helmet, boots and everything else, but also when we ride we're always recording our riding adventures with our GoPro using our Chin Mounts.

Not only is the footage going to protect you in the event of an unfortunate accident, but you may also capture some funny moments and then you have it on video. Our Helmet Camera Chin Mounts work great for personal protection liability as they provide you with footage that's truly representative of your riding experience.

When you think about it, you spent all that money on quality motorcycle gear just in case you have an accident but what are you going to do to protect yourself after in case there's no witnesses around. Save yourself now and let the footage speak for itself later!

How To Protect Yourself In Court

How are you going to protect yourself in court? Without video evidence or a witness it becomes he said, she said. If you have a video recording showing all the circumstances leading up to the accident no matter what the other person says, you have full video evidence and can protect yourself from a wrongful lawsuit.

Perhaps you hit your head when you crashed and you don’t even know what happened. Our bodies will often go into shock after a traumatic experience and we can’t remember exactly what happened but a video is a witness without bias. Videos don't lie and judge's like nothing more than the truth.

Get ahead of the game and invest in a Chin Mount for your motorcycle helmet to protect yourself from the unfortunate circumstance that may happen one day.

Obviously, we hope things don’t happen but we know they do, that’s why we wear good quality riding gear and capture all of our adventures.
